How to find journal articles and other references

Individual journal articles are not usually listed in the library catalogue. 
Indexing and abstracting databases list articles under various topics and can be searched  using  subject and keyword.  These databases can be searched via the www  in the Library, student computer facilities in the  library or faculty, or from home. 
These  electronic resources require authentication.
Journal articles may also be found by using printed bibliographies.

Full text for a few titles.

JSTOR  full text of  a wide selection of scholarly journals from their first issues until 3-5 years ago.

Project Muse
 gives full text access to University Press and other scholarly electronic journals in the social sciences, humanities etc from about 1995 onwards.

Expanded academic ASAP 1980-
an interdisciplinary index covering approximately 1500 current journals, many of which have full text on-line.

Academic Search Elite 1985-
Full text for more than 1,850 scholarly journals, many of which have full text on-line.

The Proceedings of the Old  Bailey London 1674 to 1834
A fully searchable online edition of the largest body of texts detailing the lives of non-elite people ever published, containing accounts of over 100,000 criminal trials held at  London's central criminal court.
Now available: 22,000 trials, from December 1714 to December 1759.

PARLIAMENTARY PAPERS

Parliamentary debates (Hansard) record what was actually said in Parliament, and as such are a rich source for historical research. Parliamentary papers publish reports that are tabled in Parliament.  .
There are indexes for each parliamentary session either at the beginning or the end of the volumes and there are also separately
published indexes which are shelved in the Reference Collection.
British Parliamentary publications in the  Barr Smith Library will assist you in finding these items.
Debates (Hansard) were not published before 1803, but ther were unofficial accounts, diaries etc
