CATALOGUE TIPS

It is very important to search the catalogue thoroughly for your topic.
Some of the Russian material in the catalogue still has Soviet Union in the subject headings but we are slowly moving toward these standard terms:
Russia   for pre-1917
Soviet Union  for 1917-1991
Russia (Federation) for 1991-
The best advice is to try a variety of options just to be sure.
Use the catalogue's Guided Keyword Search option to search for "any of these"
Russia? Soviet
and  the other terms you are interested in eg women, peasant? etc

For  primary sources add   terms such as "sources", diaries", "personal narratives"etc.

Resources for the third year
historiographical essay

First, consult the catalogue. This may seem obvious, but many students fail to fully investigate the resources of our own library.

Using  guided keyword search   you can search for your historian  as a subject.
Searching by Subject heading can be especially useful  if you use terms such as country paired with the term historiography.
e.g. SOVIET  HISTORIOGRAPHY   ( click all of these)
RUSSIA?  HISTORIOGRAPHY      ( click all of these)
and there are even three books listed under the subject heading SOVIETOLOGISTS!
