Web Links

Marginality and community in medieval Europe

The Malleus Maleficarum of Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenge
On this site there are introductions to Summers' rather inaccurate translations published in 1928 and 1948, and links to certain notes and references cited. The eventual aim is to provide links to all the references. This site is extremely useful for those seeking information about the work, or quotations, but it must be remembered that the accuracy of Summers' translations has been the subject of doubt. Whilst it is worth using for an overall view of the work, it should be used with caution and definitely checked against a copy of the Latin original. The summation and introduction reflect many stereotypical beliefs about the witchcraft persecution, which have been disproved by recent scholarship.
