Catalogue and call
number hints
Some of our Australian art books are in Special Collections
(open 1- 4pm Mon-Fri or call 83035244 to make alternative
arrangements).
You may miss them if you rely on browsing in the main
collection.
A thorough seach of the catalogue is essential.
In
guided keyword the following search options may help.
Subject headings for art are quite specific and can be rather
confusing.
For example:
Art, Australia and Art, Australian
are both used, as are
Painting, Modern 20th century
Australia, Painting,
Australian
Painters Australia 20th century
It may therefore be more successful to use any keyword
in subject heading, with truncation, and search terms such
as:
Paint? Australia?
Art Australia? modern?
Other useful subject headings include
Landscape painting 19th century Australia.
Art, Australian 19th century.
Heidelberg school.
Impressionism (Art) Australia.
Australia in art
Bushrangers in art
Aboriginal Australians in art
Don't forget to search your artist as a subject heading:
Streeton, Arthur, Sir, 1867-1943
Preston, Margaret, 1875-1963
and also search the painter's name in keyword from author and
title:
Sidney Nolan
Call numbers are used to locate materials on the shelves.
709.994.....arts in general in Australia
759.994.....painting in Australia and also Australian painters.
75 (shelved as 750) and 92 (shelved as 920) may be used for older
artist's biographies
