Graduate Studies in Art History

Library resource guide for online students

Art history resource guides include print resources which are available at the Barr Smith Library, University of Adelaide, but may also be available in other libraries if you check their catalogues.
If you have a good university, state or art gallery nearby it is worth invesigating whether you can use it for your research. Many have online contact details and catalogues.
If you are more remote you can use interlibrary loan via your local public library.
Remember, the further you are from a library the longer lead time you need to give yourself for research!

Do not hesitate to contact your Research Librarian,

Help is alway only an email away!

Electronic resources

Much of what you are required to read and look at will be provided to you via MyUni.
In addition, the library subscribes to thousands of electronic journals and books.
These will be most helpful when you are doing research and further reading.

DO NOT just Google and chase electronic resources along that route. For many journal articles etc you will eventually be asked for money!
If you use the databases listed in your Resource Guides for Art History and follow their journal links, or search for journal and book titles in the library catalogue, you will find high quality resources for which the library has already paid a subscription - all we need from you is your university username and password.

You can also do a keyword search of the catalogue limiting to "electronic resources" using the box to the right of the search screen.

Using the resources of the Barr Smith Library

The library offers a Remote students library service, which will send you books, chapters and journal articles within Australia, and scans of chapters and articles overseas.
Follow the link to register and find out more.

Using resources of other libraries

Students in Adelaide are able to borrow from any of the libraries of the three universities using their University of Adelaide student card.
You can search across the three catalogues using the other catalogues option at the top of the catalogue screen.
You may be near another large library which may have resources for you.
Within Australia there is University Library Australia which enables you to register at another university library.
Our web page provides a gateway to other libraries' catalogues, which includes access to the National Bbibliographic database, Libraries Australia(Kinetica), with holdings from libraries all over Australia.

Worldcat for America and beyond.

Copac for major British libraries.

or look at Other Library Catalogues

Google Book Search will take you to some digitised books or, from the page that tells you "about this book", links you to a library catalogue or bookshop near you.

For second hand books try:
Bookfinder or Alibris, and, for Australian booksellers, Abebooks.

E-books

Are included in the catalogue along with alll othe titles, and searches can be limited to "electronic".
