PARLIAMENTARY PUBLICATIONS

The library has a guide entitled Parliamentary publications in the Barr Smith Library.
There is lots of useful information in the Australian section of our guide, including call numbers for finding the debates etc in the 320's on level 1 of the library.
Parliamentary debates (Hansard) record what was actually said in Parliament, and as such are a rich source for historical research. Parliamentary papers publish reports that are tabled in Parliament. These can be individual reports on an issue or the annual reports of state or commonwealth officials or departments. There are indexes for each parliamentary session either at the beginning or the end of the volumes and there are also separately published indexes listed in the booklet which are shelved in the Reference Collection.

Parliament of Australia is on the www and you can search the debates in the House of Representatives (Hansard) 2005 to 1981 and of the Senate 1981-2005.

Royal Commissions and Commissions of Inquiry, 1902–2004
(Commonwealth of Australia commissions only, does not include states)

For question 9:
To follow up references to Hansard, see the Library catalogue :Australia. Parliament. Parliamentary Debates. [Hansard]. 1902- Main collection 328.9406 A93p
each volume has an index.
