Newspapers
The Barr Smith Library holds a large number of Australian newspapers on
microfilm, many going back to the 19th century.
They are listed in guide Newspapers
in the Barr Smith Library: a finding list.
There is always a paper copy of this at the desk in the microfilm/audiovisual
area, level 3.
Most newspapers are not indexed (except for special topics such
as the Index to references to Aborigines in Adelaide newspapers).
The best guide is usually the exact date of the event.

Parliamentary publications
Parliamentary
publications in the Barr Smith Library
Parliamentary debates (Hansard) record what was actually said in Parliament,
and as such are a rich source for historical research. Parliamentary papers
publish reports that are tabled in Parliament. These can be individual
reports on an issue or the annual reports of state or commonwealth officials
or departments There are indexes for each parliamentary session either
at the beginning or the end of the volumes and there are also separately
published indexes listed in the booklet which are shelved in the Reference
Collection.
