Websites
- Digital media literacy
- Digital media literacy is often understood as the ability to access, understand and participate or create content using digital media. This website from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) discusses how developments in digital technology have had significant effects on the way individuals interact with communications and media services. An increasingly wide range of sources of information, ways of doing business, services (including government services) and entertainment are now commonly made available and accessed online and/or through digital media.
- Digital media in Australian homes: First report
- The first report issued by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) in 2005.
An Australia-wide research study which examined: community perceptions of digital media; how people are moving to digital media platforms; the drivers and inhibitors to the adoption of Digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB).
While DTTB is the major focus of the study, this was considered in the context of community adoption of digital media generally, in particular digital subscription television and broadband internet audio-visual content. The research aimed to provide benchmarks as Australians move further towards the adoption of DTTB, and to inform tracking of the DTTB transition process over time.
- Digital media in Australian homes: Second report
- The second report issued by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) in 2006.
Digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB), or digital free-to-air television, is progressively being rolled out in Australia. Free-to-air television services are currently being simulcast in digital alongside the existing analog services across most parts of Australia, and DTTB will eventually replace the analog broadcast of these services.
This second study was conducted in October 2006 with key objectives to: identify the household penetration of DTTB, subscription television, the internet, and personal digital video recorders; understand the 'drivers' for adopting DTTB and reasons for non-adoption; measure awareness of DTTB and analog switch-off, and sources of information about digital television.
