Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries. The Radio page has useful information including Reports and research.

Websites - Australia

Code of Practice - Radio
The Broadcasting Services Act 1992 includes legislative requirements for all broadcasting services, including temporary and fully licenced community broadcasters. One of these requirements is the Codes of Practice, a document of self-regulation for each broadcasting sector in Australia.

Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)
ACMA regulates broadcasting services in Australia. This includes: planning the radiofrequency spectrum that radio and television services use; issuing and renewing licences to broadcasters; administering commercial ownership and control rules to maintain media diversity regulating broadcasting content, developing program standards or licence conditions on specific issues; supporting the development of codes of practice for the industry to ensure community safeguards.

Community Broadcasting Foundation
An independent non-profit funding agency that solicits and distributes funds for the maintenance and development of community broadcasting in Australia.

Community Broadcasting Association of Australia
The national peak body for community radio and television stations. The CBAA provides leadership, advocacy and support for our members to facilitate independent broadcasting services and to build and strengthen local communities.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation
The ABC is Australia's public broadcaster. It produces national and local television, radio and online services.

Radio Australia
Comprising eight languages and focusing uniquely on Asia and the Pacific, Radio Australia is the international radio and online service of the Australian national broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

To find books on radio in the Library look up the Library Catalogue using the Subject Heading Radio broadcasting.
There are lots of books listed under different subheadings of Radio; try Radio advertising, Radio audiences, Radio broadcasters, Radio journalism, Radio production and direction, Radio programs, Radio stations, and so on.


Reference works

A very useful dictionary of radio terminology is the International dictionary of broadcasting and film edited by Desi K. Bognaar, 2nd ed, 2000.
