Individual philosophers

Quite often you'll be looking for critical work on an individual philosopher. One of the best ways to do this is to use a search engine.
The Yahoo search engine has a special section for searching philosophers; if you want to look for information on an individual philosopher right now, here you go:-

Search all of Yahoo Search only in Philosophers

If Yahoo doesn't find what you need, there are many other search engines you may use; I've identified what seem to me to be the best of them on my Search engines page. [Please note: the Search engines page will open in a new window].

You'll find that the quality (and even the existence) of the resources you may find by using search engines will vary enormously; some philosophers have had the full treatment: others might as well not exist.
For an example of what is available, have a look at this Hume page or this one on Bertrand Russell.
Some modern philosophers have their own pages: are you interested in, say, Daniel Dennett ?
Or perhaps one of our own University of Adelaide graduates, David Chalmers, now a professor of Philosophy at the Australian National University.

Do you ever wonder what Jacques Derrida or Peter Singer look like? Here's a photograph gallery of many famous philosophers.

Another (more traditional, but still very effective!) way to find information on a particular philosopher or philosophy topic is to use the Subject Heading search in the Library Catalogue.
