Mathematical Statistics Resources

Most of the items listed under mathematics are relevant to mathematical statistics. The items listed here are focus on mathematical statistics

Databases

The databases listed under Mathematics are also useful to mathematical statistics. Those listed below are very specific to statistics. You may find other databases on other subjects useful if you are looking for articles on statistics applied to a particular discipline.

Current Index To Statistics, 1975-
also available in print at Reference Collection 519.205 C976 1975-2001

Indexes the entire contents of "core journals", in most cases from 1975 (or first issue if later) to the current end year, and pre-1975 coverage for several of them, selected articles since 1975 from additional journals (cumulatively), and books in statistics published since 1975.
Statistical Theory And Method Abstracts.
Reference Collection 310.5 S79 1965-
Contains abstracts of articles on probability, statistical theory, and important applications. Foreign language article titles are given in English and the language of the article is given. Articles are arranged in a classified subject sequence. A copy of the classification scheme is given in each issue. An author index is given for each issue and an annual cumulated author index is produced.

Electronic journals

To locate a known electronic journal accessible to the University of Adelaide staff and students, search the Library's catalogue using the "Journal Title" option. Click here for a list of electronic journals relevant to mathematical statistics available from our catalogue. The Library holds all the titles from ScienceDirect( except for a few), Kluwer, Wiley, JStor (backset of journals).

Internet gateways

If you have difficulty finding mathematical statistics resources on the Internet, try a gateway that gives a large number of mathematical statistics links and browse for likely sites e.g.

StatLib

Hosted by the Department of Statistics  at  Carnegie Mellon University. A system for distributing statistical software, datasets, and information by electronic mail, FTP and WWW

StatSci.org

A portal for statistical science, the discipline of statistics. A window to statistical science and bioinformatics on the web, with special attention to Australia. StatSci.org consists of two parts: resources and directory. The resources are a set of services including the Australian jobs database. The directory is a Yahoo-like index of statistical science resources on the web

Statistics Virtual Library

Maintained by the University of Florida Department of Statistics. Organised in the following order:  Data Sources;  Job Announcements;  Departments, Divisions and Schools of Statistics;  On-Line Educational Resources, Government Statistical Institutes;  Statistical Research Groups, Institutes, and Associations;  Statistical Services;  Statistical Archives and Resources;  Statistical Software Vendors and Software FAQs;  Statistical Journals; Mailing List Archives;  Statistics Related News Groups;  Related Fields
Institute of Mathematical Statistics
The purpose of the Institute is to foster the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of statistics and probability.
Statistical Science Web

Pre-prints and Publications

Probability Abstract Service
Facility to search the database. Everybody is welcome to submit abstracts to the Probability Abstract Service
Markov Chain Monte Carlo Preprint Service
This service provides a list of all registered papers on MCMC methodology currently submitted for publication. It should be noted that the MCMC Preprint Service has no editorial policy and that the administrators rely upon contributors to offer appropriate papers. It is entirely the contributors responsibility to ensure that submitted papers are essentially correct, and that acceptable academic practice is followed at all times

Encyclopaedias and Dictionaries

Most of the encyclopaedias and dictionaries are in the Reference Collection 519.22103

Encyclopedia of statistical sciences / editors-in-chief, Samuel Kotz, Norman L. Johnson ; associate editor, Campbell B. Read.1982-1989
Reference collection  519.22103 E56

Covers satistical theory and the application of methods.
Marriott, F. H. C. A dictionary of statistical terms. 5th. ed. 1982.
Reference Collection 519.22103 M359d

International encyclopedia of statistics. 2v. 1978.
Reference Collection 519.221 I61

A two volume work of articles on statistics, or articles relevant to statistics applied to the social sciences.
Kurtz, A. K. Statistical dictionary of terms and symbols. 1967.
Reference Collection 310.3 K96

Data

Statistical Reference Datasets
The purpose of this project is to improve the accuracy of statistical software  by providing reference datasets with certified computational results that enable the objective evaluation of statistical software.
StatLib
Hosted by the Department of Statistics  at  Carnegie Mellon University. A system for distributing statistical software, datasets, and information by electronic mail, FTP and WWW
GASP (Globally Accessible Statistical Procedures)
Designed to make statistical routines easily available via the WWW. The routines currently available have been divided into two categories, data analysis and educational. For the data analysis procedures, users need only choose the routine of interest and then enter the data as well as any other necessary information into a form or a Java applet. It's that simple. Results will be returned to the user's browser window or to a Java applet window.
The educational procedures are all written in Java and feature interactive graphics. A wide range of statistical topics are
covered.

Handbooks, etc.

Greenwood, J. A. Guide to tables in mathematical statistics. 1962.
Reference Collection 519.2 G816
This is a catalogue of tables, most of which were published between 1900 and 1954. Full references are provided for each entry, and the work is well equipped with detailed author and subject index
Selected tables in mathematical statistics. 1973-
Reference Collection 519.2 S4645
A detailed multi-volume work. All tables are accompanied by introductory materials, the formula used in the calculation, and the computational procedure (or algorithm) used to generate the tables.
Kres, H. Statistical tables for multivariate analysis: a handbook with references to application. 1983.
Reference Collection 519.237 K92s.E

Abramowitz, Milton. Handbook of mathematical functions with formulas, graphs, and mathematical tables.1972.

Newsgroups and mailing list

AllStat
Allstat is a UK-based worldwide e-mail broadcast system for the statistical community. This list is operated by the Computers in Teaching Initiative (CTI) Centre for Statistics (although the broadcasts do not need to be concerned with teaching), and maintained currently by Matt Whiley in Glasgow. It is housed in Newcastle University's Mailbase system, which is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Funding Councils for England, Scotland and Wales. Allstat is intended to provide a fast and simple way of sending information to a wide body of statisticians.
To find other mathematical statistics newsgroups and discussion lists that allow an exchange of news and views, try a subject search of one of the following directories:
  • JISC, The National Academic Mailing List Service (UK based)
  • TILE.NET
