There is already a collection
of hard copy books, theses and print journals within The University of
Adelaide Dental School. Access to these items is limited to postgraduate
students and staff and, at present, access is restricted severely because
the collection lacks a home.
Additionally, 40 new and recent
book titles relating to clinical practice were recently donated generously
by Halas Dental and Quintessence Publishing (you can click here
to
view the list if you have Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, or
click here to see the list as a pdf document). A further
60 new titles are expected over the next two years. Once the Resource
Centre is established it is likely that at least one other publisher will
lend this initiative support by donating additional book titles. All of these valuable resources should be available to members of the profession
who visit The University of Adelaide's North Terrace campus. The availability of a range of resources
will make the Resource Centre a focal point for a revitalized Alumni, study
groups and other practitioners. The Resource Centre will promote
and support interaction between practitioners of all disciplines within
the profession. The Resource Centre will be a place within
The University of Adelaide where the profession can feel it has ownership. Access will be provided via
a computer in the Resource Centre to Barr Smith Library electronic
resources online within the terms of publisher licence agreements with
the University Users of the Resource Centre who
do not have Library membership as staff or students of the University may
apply for Alumni rate borrowing rights from the Barr Smith Library. This could be combined with membership of the Friends of the University
of Adelaide Library Chapter of Development and
Alumni. If there is sufficient demand, the
relationship with the Library could also be extended to provide information
services to the profession in South Australia, including document delivery,
on an agreed user pays basis.
