The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has funded a Human Genetics Initiative. The goal of this Initiative is to establish a national resource of clinical data and biomaterials that are collected from individuals with Alzheimer disease, autism, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder, in order to aid researchers in understanding the genetic bases of these disorders. The NIMH-funded Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness (CATIE) Study was a nationwide public health-focused clinical trial that compared the effectiveness of older (first available in the 1950s) and newer (available since the 1990s) antipsychotic medications used to treat schizophrenia.
