Keyword (search engine style)

The default search option on the Catalogue is called Keyword (search engine style). This option allows you to put in keywords and these will be combined using AND logic. The results will be sorted by 'relevance'. Sometimes the items you are looking for will turn up at the head of the results and sometimes not. You can't use OR logic, and you shouldn't include and in your search unless you want the catalogue to search for this as a keyword.

You can search for a phrase using this option but you need to enclose the phrase in double quotes.

I don't recommend using Keyword (search engine style) if you know the title or author of an item. You will usually be better off using Tile or Author search.
Keyword (search engine style) can be useful when you want to enter an author's surname and one or more significant title words, or if you want to search for an unusual word.
Word order isn't important.

You can also do something similar using Summon.

Enter keywords into the basic Summon search box if one of the words is unusual or if you have several words you want to AND together.
Note that you can restrict your search to find just books or just articles.
Word order isn't important.
