dental oral mouth
Click on the black triangle at the end of all of these.
Change this to any of these.
In the second Search for: box type
health australia?
Make sure that all of these is shown at the end of the Search for: box.
Click on the Search button.
|
Now you have a search that is equivalent to

Guided keyword searches don't require you to type in the search logic (and, or, not).
If you include the logic your search will fail!
Search Logic in Guided Keyword Search
Logic within the Search for: boxes
Selecting any of these at the end of a Search for: box is equivalent to using OR logic.
Any of the single words or truncated word stems you type in may be included in your search results
dental oral mouth
is equivalent to
(dental or oral or mouth)
Selecting all of these at the end of a Search for: box imposes AND logic, so that
each of the words or truncated word stems you type MUST be in the record of an item if it is to be included in the results.
Phrase Logic
Guided keyword searches are useful for searching phrases such as heart disease, or social medicine etc. when you want to combine a phrase with other search terms.
 |
Click on New Search at the top or at the bottom of The Catalogue screen.
In the first Search for: box type heart disease?
Change all of these to as a phrase.
In the second Search for: box type
social community public
and change all of these to any of these.
Click on Search. |
This search will ensure that you find the phrases 'heart disease' or 'heart diseases' in each item retrieved by the search.
This is more specific than using heart disease? and all of these.
Search Logic Between the Search for: boxes
You are able to choose the search logic operating between the top and bottom Search for: boxes by clicking in the buttons to the left of and, or, not on the search screen.
We have used AND logic in the searches above but you can use OR logic in some situations.
In the search below OR logic can be used to combine a phrase search with single words.
Searching in Different Fields of Catalogue Records Using Guided Keyword
If you scroll across to the right hand side of The Catalogue Guided Keyword screen you can see that you can change Search by: from Any Keywords to several other options.
Guided Keyword is often easier to use than Keyword (and, or, not, " ") for moderately complicated searches.
Keyword (and, or, not, " ") is more flexible for use in quite complicated keyword searches.
