Provides some information about the basics of development studies.

Provides fifty-four key readings on development history, theory and policy.

Provides an analysis of development discourse and practice in general.

Microfinance : a reader (2009) [print]
Explores microfinance in relation to poverty reduction, gender and social development.

Poverty and development into the 21st century (2000) [print]
Introductory text for key issues.

The UN and development : from aid to cooperation (2000) [print]
A comprehensive overview of the development policies and activities of the United Nations system from the late 1940s to the present.

Finding Books Using The Library Catalogue

Books can be found by searching the library catalogue. Keyword searching is probably the best way of identifying material, and your results will be maximised by using keyword searching techniques such as truncation and Boolean searching, and by incorporating subject headings into your search where appropriate. Here are some examples on how to construct searches:

poverty and "social development"
"good governance" and Asia
child? and poverty

Note: The library catalogue uses the ? as a truncation symbol. Many other databases use *.

Subject headings:

To search for DVDs and videos in the library catalogue:
At the Basic Search or Guided Keyword Seach screen click on the "More Limits" tab on the right hand side of the screen. Select "videorecording" then select "Set Limits". Now when you search you will retrieve either DVDs or videos.
