Other sources for biographical information

General biographical dictionaries such as the Dictionary of scientific biography can be useful starting places. For Australians, try the Australian dictionary of biography and Brightsparcs.

Encyclopedias often include biographical information - for example see the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences and the International encyclopedia of the social and behavioral sciences.

To search the library catalogue for individuals try a keyword search. For example, a keyword search for Rachel Carson will retrieve material written by her as well as material written about her.

Similar searches for journal articles etc. are also possible using databases, but also consider two printed bibliographies, the Bibliography of geographic thought and the History of modern geography: an annotated bibliography both of which provide references to published biographical works
