General Library Training Sessions
These training sessions are designed for anyone who wants to develop skills that will help them find resources for assignments and make their study Smarter, Better, Faster. These sessions are aimed at undergraduate students however any University of Adelaide students may register.

All sessions will be held in the Barr Smith Library 24 Hour Computing Suite. For directions please ask staff at the Service Enquiries or Research Help desks.
These classes are limited to currently enrolled University of Adelaide students and staff. Please provide a valid University email when registering for a session.

Dissecting Your Reading List

This session will teach you to quickly and painlessly dissect your reading list to work out what the citations are actually for and how to understand them. By the end, you'll be able to easily identify the bits of information that make up a citation and identify what type of material the citation is for. You will also learn how to find these resources in the library.

Databases are an essential tool for finding journal articles. Everyone needs to be familiar with how to use them. If you find the thought of having to use a database worrying, come along to this hands-on session (feel free to bring an assignment or topic to research) and learn some basic database skills using Academic Search Premier that will help you search any database more efficiently.

Are you writing an essay and having trouble keeping track of your references? Is producing a bibliography using a referencing style like Harvard, APA or Vancouver your worst nightmare?
This hands-on session will show you how to take the pain out of referencing by using the referencing tool provided in Summon and Word 2007. We will show you how easy it is to add in-text references and produce a bibliography and leave you feeling confident about tackling referencing in your next assignment.

There's so much information available on the Internet - it can be impossible to keep up. RSS is a tool that can be very helpful in managing all this information. In this hands-on session we'll teach you about RSS, how to sign up, how to use it and how to get the most from this handy technology.

Finding information on the Internet isn't difficult. Working out what is high quality information can be difficult. This session will give you the skills to decide what's good and what's not. By the end, you'll be able to search Smarter, Better, Faster. Learn to quickly and simply evaluate the quality of online information and decide if it's something you should be using for your academic writing.
