Short course borrowing
Short course borrower membership is designed to enable students who are involved in a short-term course of study at the University of Adelaide to borrow books from the University of Adelaide Library.
Contents
Who may join?
Short course borrower membership is available only to students who are associated with a course run by a Department of the University of Adelaide. Prior arrangements with the Library's Services Section must be made by the Department running the short course. In most cases this will involve sending us a list of the students who will be entitled to join, before the course commences. Individual students on a short course must register at the Barr Smith Library's Services desk on Level 3 South.
Cost
A membership fee of $33.00 enables a short course member to borrow books for a three-month period. An additional fee of $33.00 will renew your membership for a further three months.
What may I borrow?
As a Short course borrower you may have on loan up to 10 items at a time from the Main collection of the Barr Smith Library.
Loan period
Books from the Main collection may be borrowed for 4 weeks.
An item on loan to you may be recalled if it is urgently required by another user. The loan period will be reduced to 7 days and you will be notified of the new due date by email.
Services
A range of licensed online resources is provided through the public access terminals located in the Library. Remote access to electronic resources is not possible.
Restrictions
As well as course work items, there are other categories of material that are not available for loan. They include material from the Reference collection, and the unbound journals collection, newspapers, items from the audiovisual collection, and microforms. Short course borrowers are not entitled to use student computers.
Returning books
Books on loan must be returned through the chutes at the Library entrance so that the loan can be correctly discharged.
Demerit points
Demerit points are allocated when items are not returned by the due date at a rate of 2 points per day (or part of a day), except for items borrowed from the Reserve collection where demerit points accrue at the rate of 5 per hour (or part of an hour).
If you acccumulate 60 demerit points your borrowing privileges are withdrawn for 7 days. You can check your demerit points by logging in to the MyLibrary option on the catalogue.
More details about the demerit points scheme are available or you can contact the Barr Smith Library Service Enquiries if you have a question regarding demerit points.
