A reciprocal borrowing scheme exists between the libraries of the three universities in South Australia. Under this arrangement current students and staff members of the University of Adelaide, the University of South Australia and Flinders University are automatically entitled to borrow from the other two university libraries. Registration is not required; just take the books you want to borrow to the Loans desk, together with your University ID Card.
Each of the libraries has set out conditions for reciprocal borrowing.
Information for University of South Australia and Flinders University users
- What may I borrow?
- University of South Australia and Flinders University users may borrow Barr Smith Library Main collection books. Journals may not be borrowed.
Similar conditions apply at the Roseworthy Campus Library and the Waite Library.
- How many? and for how long?
- You may have a maximum of ten items on loan at one time. The loan period is four weeks.
- An item on loan to you may be recalled if it is urgently required by another user. The loan period will be reduced to seven days and you will be notified of the new due date by email.
- Renewing a loan
-
You may renew the loan of a book from MyLibrary on or before the due date.
-
A loan may not be renewed if another user is waiting for the book or if you have already renewed it for the maximum number of renewals allowed.
- Demerit points
- Demerit points are allocated when books are not returned by the due date.
- If you accumulate more than 60 demerit points you will be excluded from the reciprocal borrowing scheme, and also from your 'home' university library, for seven days.
If an item is kept beyond the date of despatch of the first and final overdue notice requesting its return, an invoice will be sent for the cost of replacement of the item, plus a non-refundable handling charge of $30.00 (includes GST) per item. More details about the demerit points scheme are available.
- Requests
- Unfortunately it is not possible for a reciprocal borrower to Request that a book on loan be held when it is returned.
- Special conditions and restrictions
- Special conditions apply in the Law Library and the Elder Music Library; please consult the relevant Librarian in charge for details.
Please note that reciprocal borrowers are not entitled to use:
- Student computers
- the Intercampus and Interlibrary loan services
Access to some electronic databases is provided through the public access terminals in the Barr Smith Library. Remote access to electronic resources is not possible.
| Books should always be returned to the Library from which you borrowed them |
Information for University of Adelaide users
You should become familiar with the rules and conditions of use of the libraries you plan to use. You must abide by the rules on loan periods, etc. or you will put your reciprocal borrowing status at risk.
