Developmental Neurobiology Laboratory

Our laboratory discovered a transcription factor called Nxf that is activated in the brain as a result of seizure. Nxf is expressed exclusively in brain tissue, in the hippocampus. The regions of neural stem cell derived neurogenesis in the brain are the hippocampus and the subventricular zone. Currently, we are investigating the possible roles of Nxf in brain derived neural stem cells and their differentiated neural cells.

Nxf belongs to the basic helix loop helix (bHLH) and Per Arnt Sim (PAS) transcription factor family. This family of transcription factors are important regulators in the developmental biology. Members of this family are known to respond to pollution (dioxin receptor), hypoxia (HIF1alpha) and more recently seizure (Nxf).
