QAP Accredited Person
The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS), as a part of its conditions for "Quarantine Approved Premises" (QAP), requires that all work using Quarantine status material is done or directly supervised by, a "QAP Accredited Person. This requirement takes effect from 28th April 2006; there is no "grace period" beyond that date. Failure to have at least one QAP Accredited Person per Quarantine Registration will lead to deregistration of the QAP.
Note: AQIS defines direct supervision as: being in the same room at all times that quarantine material is in use.
Supervisors, using quarantine status material, must decide how many QAP Accredited Persons they will need to efficiently deal with their work.
How do You Know What is Quarantine Material?
All newly issued import permits will state the quarantine level status of the item. AQIS will contact all holders of permits, issued before this system started, to inform them of the quarantine status of of material named on those permits.
Note: If your staff/students handle quarantine status material in another work area (e.g. the animal house) they will, most likely, need the training. The decision on this will be the prerogative of the Animal House management.
