School Safety Strategy
Note: The University's Policy and Procedures have recently changed. Over the next few months, the School's Guidelines, Procedures and documentation will be reviewed to reference the new University Safety Policy and HSW Handbook.
School Safety Strategy
The School of Molecular & Biomedical Science is continually striving to create a safer place for you to work and study. A part of this committment is through the School Safety Strategy which demonstrates how we aim to achieve this.

Safety for Casual Users of School Facilities
A considerable numbers of workers from other University schools/departments and other institutions use MBS equipment or facilities on a casual short term basis.
While they are working in our area the School has a duty of care to these persons.
A considerable numbers of workers from other University schools/departments and other institutions use MBS equipment or facilities on a casual short term basis.

Permission
All persons wishing to use our facilities must:
- Seek permission from either the School manager, the technical facilities manager or the appropriate research supervisor
- Have an appropriate induction and read the School emergency safety documents
- Confirm that they are able to safely operate the facility they will use
- Be recorded as having dome so by lodging the appropriate form with the safety coordinator
- Complete an IBC Record of Training form
Their confirmation of competence will be accepted, for most facilities, but the School reserves the right: to insist on a demonstration of competence whenever it considers it necessary.
Supervisors
All supervisors granting permission for non-school persons to use facilities in their areas must ensure they fill out the appropriate forms and lodge them with the safety coordinator.
