The School of Molecular and Biomedical Science was formed in June 2002 in order to coordinate and consolidate the University's cutting edge work in the disciplines of Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology & Immunology and Physiology. About 480 people comprise the research, teaching and support staff, postgraduates and honours students of the School.

The School has strong links with the CSIRO Division of Health Sciences and Nutrition, the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science, the Hanson Institute, major teaching hospitals and industry. It has spawned two successful, publicly listed biotechnology companies.

The acting head of the school of Molecular and Biomedical Science is Professor John Carver, and the school's business manager is Mr Douglas Pottrell.

Based on the North Terrace Campus of the University of Adelaide, the School occupies a new, extremely well equipped laboratory complex that was purpose-built for molecular biology research, as well as refurbished high-quality research and teaching space in the Medical School complex.
