Facility Upgrade
In 2006, the Facility began a major upgrade, which included:
- The purchase and installation of 3 stand-alone units and 1 bench top unit (established as a secondary nursery) from Aquatic Habitats.
- An additional photoperiod unit in the original facility room (tripling embryo production of the old facility room)
- The completion of a second facility room to house the second fish colony (opened for user access in March 2007)
In 2007, the Facility continued the upgrade with:
- Opening of the expanded second facility room
- All light cycle systems are operational and are running at full capacity, the total Facility brood stock is now ~4,500 fish (5 x the original output capability)
- Upgraded Facility website, allowing online access to brood stock booking, and Facility promotion through general browsing (Launched March 20, 2008)
- Beginning the development of a new Live Stock Storage Facility (Waite Campus)
In 2008:
- OTGR certified Live Stock Storage Facility (Waite campus), acting as a second storage location for vital stock lines
- Converting old digital imaging room into a micro injection room
- Launched cost recovery "Pay for Service" system
- Applied to become an AIB Lab
Continuing in 2009:
- Introduction of a Techniplast ZebTec MiniZeb system
- Introduction of a Facility database documenting all fish populations within the Facility
- Further developing website to include Facility database search for users, List of In situ Hybridization Probes, file sharing capabilities.
