An Opportunity to Secure Your Research Career

The Freemasons Foundation Centre for Men’s Health seeks a research fellow. We are looking for an early-to-mid career candidate with significant leadership potential in their chosen field of research. We will consider a range of disciplinary backgrounds and research interests of relevance to men’s health. At a minimum, you should have:

  • a doctorate or equivalent degree in the health sciences including: epidemiology, biostatistics, population health, psychology, biomedical sciences or other relevant post-medical specialist training
  • a competitive record of research productivity in terms of publications and research funding
  • demonstrable capacity to make an original intellectual input
  • demonstrable capacity to develop your own research program of relevance to the Centre’s mission.

You will be expected to contribute to the development of this new Centre and to use this opportunity to achieve independence in research funding. You will join a growing, multidisciplinary team of world renowned researchers and enjoy significant opportunities to collaborate with researchers from across Australia and internationally.

Initially, the Centre’s research program is based on existing research strengths in aspects of men’s health including ageing, obesity and diabetes, prostate cancer, reproductive health, masculinities and sport, and health services. We have members engaged in a range of research projects including a longitudinal cohort study, health services research, qualitative studies, basic science research and clinical trials. The Centre is actively extending its research program by recruiting new members and securing additional funds. Possible relevant areas of research interest include chronic disease, health promotion, health behaviour change, injury, mental health, engagement with health services, and molecular epidemiology.

Joint appointments between the Centre and relevant Disciplines in the Faculty of Health Sciences can be negotiated. We anticipate a starting salary in the academic level B range: $64,757 - $76,900 per annum. Plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17% applies. To assist the candidate in building an independent research program, we will fund a post-doctoral research fellow to work directly with the candidate for at least one year and provide a $20,000. cash grant.

This fixed-term position is available immediately for an initial period of 2 years with potential to renew for a further 3 years (ie a total of 5 five years funding is available subject to satisfactory performance).
