Information for Staff
Adelaide Microscopy is a business unit within the portfolio of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research.
Adelaide Microscopy has a centrally located laboratory within the Adelaide CBD which houses the University of Adelaide's Electron and Confocal microscopes in addition to a suite of other analytical tools including X-ray microtomography and sample preparation equipment. Staff and postgraduate students of the University are trained to use the equipment at Adelaide Microscopy and their projects are charged at nominal student rates.
Adelaide Microscopy is staffed with full-time microscopists and a skilled technical officers. The staff have many years of accumulated knowledge in microscopy and experience in the biological and materials sciences.
The centre's microscopes provide high resolution imaging of biological (tissue, plant etc) and physical materials down to nano- dimensions. They also provide analytical information through x-ray analysis. Increasingly these techniques are developing the capability of examining the structure of materials in 3-D. The confocal microscopes and x-ray microtomography at the centre provide these capabilities.
We provide:
- Hands-on training for student operation of microscopes and training in sample preparation techniques by highly skilled microscopists. Training sessions for microscopes can be arranged by booking a microscope time. Training for sample preparation can be arranged by contacting Adelaide Microscopy.
- Expert assistance and guidance with preparation techniques of biological and materials samples for optical, electron and x-ray microscopy.
- Network access to images and data produced at the centre.
