Viewing MyMedia Content

As a University of Adelaide student, you have access to MyMedia content from both on campus or on the move. MyMedia content can be delivered and viewed in several different ways:

  • Within a MyUni course
  • Links in an email
  • Published on a Web page

The "Youtube" style MyMedia Player for streaming content can be implemented by MyMedia content owners.

MyMedia Formats

MyMedia content can either be downloaded, or streamed. MyMedia provides video and audio in the following formats for download:

  • MP4 video formatted for iPod/iPhone and standard displays
  • MP3 audio

MP4 Video can be played on both Windows and Mac computers, using software such as Apple iTunes or VLC Media Player. MP3 audio files can be played back on any platform using any media player software.

MyMedia content can also be streamed via your Web browser in MyUni. The lecturer or course administrator must set up this feature within the MyUni course. When available, a "Youtube" style video player will be available for viewing the MyMedia content.

Viewing MyMedia Content

University Computers

All computers available to students on campus are able to access MyMedia content, and have the necessary software installed.

Personal Computers

You can use your personal laptop to view MyMedia content, but you might need to install some additional software. See Additional Software below.

Viewing MyMedia Streams/Broadcasts

Windows Computers

All recent Windows computers come with Windows Media Player pre-installed, which is the only software you need. Clicking on the streaming/broadcast link you wish to view should automatically open Windows Media Player, and start playing. If it does not, you will need to manually open Windows Media Player. Once opened click 'File > Open URL' and type in the link to the stream/broadcast you wish to watch. If 'File > Open URL' is not visible in Windows Media Player, push the 'ALT' key on your keyboard while Windows Media Player is open, which will reveal the menu.

Mac / Linux / Windows Alternative

The software VLC can playback public University streams/broadcasts. To do this, download and install VLC from the link below, then open the program. Once open, click File > Open Network, and enter the URL for the stream/broadcast, and click open, the stream should begin playing.
