About MyUni
-
What is MyUni?
MyUni is The University of Adelaides Learning Management System (LMS). It
provides and online space where staff and
students can:
- share course material such as lecture notes, journal articles, web
links, audio and video
- communicate using discussion boards, email, announcements and voice
tools
- undertake assessment activities such as online quizzes, surveys and
assignments
- use as a base for online learning technologies such as virtual classrooms,
wikis, blogs etc
-
MyUni is a centrally managed service to support the online delivery of courses at the University of Adelaide. The MyUni service:
- Is primarily used for flexible delivery (ie. to enhance, but not replace, existing face to face teaching),
- can facilitate the delivery of online distance education courses, and
- can be used for development programs for staff and students (occupational
health and safety courses and library skills tutorials are examples of
these programs that are already on MyUni)
The MyUni service has 3 key components;
- A course management and content creation tool that allows course instructors to create and deliver courses via the internet. This system provides a personalised view of courses and organisations for all users based on their role and relationship to the University.
- Support services that include the Helpdesk for MyUni (the first IT helpdesk for students, staffed between 8am-12pm from the 25th of February) and other web-based help for instructors and students.
- A quality program that includes hands on training for staff, ongoing evaluation, monitoring and user feedback.
Every academic course taught by the University will have a website in MyUni. Although some instructors may choose not to use MyUni, students will have access to the websites of all of their courses.

What is the difference between MyUni and Blackboard?
Blackboard is the name of the learning management software that
is used to provide the MyUni service.
MyUni is the brand name of the service that has been created by the
University of Adelaide that incorporates the centrally managed software and
hardware, support and development programs. The name has been chosen deliberately
so that independence is maintained from the name of the learning management
software used for delivering the service. MyUni is managed through a partnership
between the Centre for Learning and Professional Development (CLPD) and Information
Technology Services.

How does MyUni interface with other IT systems?
The MyUni learning management system provided by the University enables:
- authentication against University directory services, and
- the automation of user, course and enrolment management through an interface with the Student Administration System.
Staff and students login to MyUni with the same username and password that
is used for e-mail, internet, calendar and all other centrally supported
online services.
MyUni automatically receives a daily extract of people, courses and enrolments
from the Student Administration System. These files are loaded into MyUni
every morning from Monday to Friday.
Loading these files into MyUni automatically creates or updates staff and student accounts, course details, enrolments of students and assignment of instructors to courses.
The LMS interface greatly reduces the amount of manual work that would otherwise have to be performed by ITS and area staff, to create courses, assign instructors to courses and then enrol students to courses.
