Test - Adding Question Metadata

Instructors can create Metadata values for questions to help organize them for future use. The Metadata values created in one question can be used when creating other questions in the same Course. These Metadata values are used to help search for questions to reuse on the Find Questions page.

Before You Begin
The Question Metadata options are only available if Add categories, topics, levels of difficulty,and keywords to questions are selected in Question Settings.

Example
An Instructor creates the following True/False question:
The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana.

The following metadata can be applied to the question:

  • Category: Geography
  • Topic: Former Yugoslavia
  • Levels of Difficulty: Low
  • Keywords: World Capitals

This question appears when in Reuse Questions in the Active Filter on the Find Questions page when Geography, Former Yugoslavia, or Low is selected.

How to Add Metadata to a Question

1. Select Tests, Surveys, and Pools in the Course Tools area of the Control Panel.

2. Select Tests.

3. Select Build Test

4. Name the test
[Optionally] Enter Description and Instructions

5. Select Submit

6. Select Create Question and choose a question type

7. In section 5, click Add

8. Select Add to enter a Category or Key word and click OK when finished. To delete a category, topic, level of difficulty, or keyword, click the X icon next to the metadata element. To add another category, topic, level of difficulty, or keyword, click Add.

9. Click Choose from Existing to select an existing category, topic, level of difficulty, or keyword.

10. Select Submit to save question
