Date/Time: Thursday, 9 July 2009, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Location: Ira Raymond Room, Barr Smith Library Cost: Free A one-day cultural symposium 'Endangered Languages, Disappearing Diversity: The Role of the University in Preserving Linguistic Diversity' is being held Thursday, 9 July. The symposium, which marks NAIDOC week, is a joint project by the Art and Heritage Collections, Discipline of Linguistics and the Special Collections of the Barr Smith Library. Speakers at the symposium will include representatives of Indigenous language communities from South Australia and Norfolk Island, government and other organisations, and University of Adelaide Professor of General Linguistics Professor Peter Mühlhäusler. An Exhibition drawn from the Special Collections of the Barr Smith Library and private papers of the University's Linguistics staff will accompany the symposium. The exhibition will be on display in the Barr Smith Library Foyer until 12 July. Everybody is welcome at this free event.
