Date/Time: Wednesday, 31 March 2010, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Location: Art Gallery Auditorium
Cost: FREE

Staff at the Centre for Automotive Safety Research (CASR) invite you to attend a series of seminars presenting a selection of the Centre's work and research outcomes.

The CASR seminar series will address major topics in the fight to reduce road trauma and highlight the latest research in the area.

Title: Regulating Vehicle Design for Pedestrian Protection
presented by Daniel Searson

Vehicles can be designed to minimise the risk of death and level of injury to a struck pedestrian. Impact testing is used to measure the extent of pedestrian protection offered by a vehicle. Such impact tests are part of regulations in Europe and Japan, and a similar regulation may be adopted in Australia in the near future. This seminar provides an overview of the potential Australian regulation, and what its implementation would mean in terms of vehicle design changes, and reductions in pedestrian death and injury.

Please RSVP to Leonie Witter: 8303 4114 or leonie.witter@adelaide.edu.au.

The Environment Institute presents William Laurance at a free public event at the University of Adelaide on March 31, 2010.

The forests of our world - a haven for countless plant and animal species - are in crisis. Our drive for continued economic growth has had devastating consequences for the world's ecosystems that provide critical human services.

Join us in conversation with William Laurance as he shares his prolific observations from a career in tropical ecosystems research. Laurance is a Distinguished Research Professor at James Cook University and also works with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama.
