How has humanity met these challenges so far, and how is it likely to do so in the future? What innovative alternative energy ideas are we producing, and what impact will they have on water and food supply, and climate change? Finally, are there grounds for optimism? Stephen Lincoln is a professor in the School of Chemistry and Physics and in the Research Institute for Climate Change and Sustainability. He wrote the prize winning book on understanding and retaining a sustainable planet, Challenged Earth (2006).
