Date/Time: Sunday, 30 August 2009, 2:00 pm Location: Scott Theatre, North Terrace Campus Cost: $15 The Classics discipline is sponsoring the staging of a play about Socrates, as seen through the eyes of the Polish playwright Jerzy Zawieyski (1902-1969). The play, which premiered in 1957 presents Socrates as a martyr of free speech in an unusual format, re-enacting some scenes from Plato's dialogues, interspersed with a chorus (normally found in Greek drama). The play has both dramatic and comedic elements. The amateur theatre group Ottoway Theatrical Ensemble, which arose from the Polish immigrant community in Adelaide, will do a one-off matinee performance in three acts, staging Zawieyski's witty and engaging play of Socrates' last days. Tickets: $15 on sale 24 July. For reservations call Anna on (08) 7225 2627 or 0412 637 261.
