Professor Gilmore is the immediate Past President of the Royal College of Physicians. He is a consultant physician and gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Honorary Professor at the Department of Medicine, University of Liverpool. His specialty interest is liver disease. He has lectured extensively overseas and has had particularly fruitful clinical and research collaborations with colleagues in the USA.
