The Don Dunstan foundation with Reconciliation SA Presents:
The 2016 Lowitja O'Donoghue Oration
To be delivered by The Hon the Rev. Dr Lynn Arnold AO
LINGUA NULLIUS: A retrospect and prospect about Australia's First languages
Australia had a rich linguistic diversity at the time of colonisation; the subsequent centuries have seen that diversity damaged enormously by neglect and, often, outright repression. Language is a key element of identity, and for this reason language policy needs to focus on supporting surviving original languages to thrive, for the benefit of our shared cultural inheritance.
In this oration, The Hon the Rev. Dr Lynn Arnold AO will explore the importance of language to Aboriginal cultural identities. An inspiring and fascinating orator with a rich and deep knowledge. Secure your tickets early for this unmissable event.
