Dr Antony Della Porta is an international consultant on biological security and biological containment and safety. He has advised the World Health Organisation and Australian, New Zealand and US Governments among other clients, and is currently working with Asian laboratories on secure containment for avian flu.

He led the US-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) / WHO team of experts that investigated SARS infection and advised on biological safety in Singapore in 2003.

Dr Della Porta is Managing Director of Bio2ic, a Victorian company that provides consultative services worldwide in biosecurity and biocontainment, including design and operation of microbiological laboratories and high-level biocontainment facilities.

On Friday 21 July he is lecturing on safety in laboratories and containment of infectious organisms to clinical virologists, infectious disease experts, researchers and public health professionals at a Medical Virology course at the University of Adelaide.

It is the first time a course of this kind has been held in Australia and delegates have come from across Australia, South-East Asia and New Zealand.
