Thursday, 9 September 2004 The long-awaited new work by an Oscar-nominated animator will feature as part of an international digital animation event at the University of Adelaide tonight (Thursday). Students, the public and members of the animation industry will see short features from 16 leading animation companies, including new work by Oscar nominee Chris Landreth, whose previous short movies include "the end" and "Bingo". It is all part of the ACM SIGGRAPH 2004 Electronic Theatre, hosted by the University of Adelaide as one of a series of events to bring the digital media industry and education community closer together. (ACM SIGGRAPH stands for Association of Computer Machinery: Special Interest Group - Computer Graphics and Interactive.) "These community events are held for digital media students who find it beneficial to meet industry practitioners and to mix with students from other institutions," says Dr Dean Bruton, Director of the Digital Media Program at the University of Adelaide. "As the next generations of digital artists and architects emerge we see the establishment of new companies ready for all kinds of digital media design proposals across art, architecture and design. "Our postgraduate digital media program is enhanced by the participation of key digital media industry practitioners. These industry education events foster collaboration and instigate new projects - and they are fun!" The Adelaide Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH screens the Electronic Theatre as an annual feature of the activities of the University of Adelaide's School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. The previous ACM SIGGRAPH and Digital Labourer's Federation event, "Breaking into the Animation Industry", attracted some 250 people, who came to listen to an industry panel discuss the qualities of a good show-reel and how to qualify for a job in the animation and effects industry. Tonight's event is also held in association with the Australian and New Zealand Association for Computer Graphics (ANZGRAPH) and the Digital Labourer's Federation. MEDIA NOTE: Media are welcome to attend the event - please RSVP to Dr Dean Bruton, phone (08) 8303 4038. WHAT: ACM SIGGRAPH 2004 Electronic Theatre |
