Can candidates do more than Pollywaffle?

Monday, 3 September 2007

In the lead up to the federal election, Radio Adelaide's newest program, Pollywaffle, will profile lead candidates from the 11 different South Australian electorates.

Airing Wednesday nights at 6pm, starting this Wednesday 5 September, this is democratic media at its best. An interactive program, listeners are encouraged to call or email with questions for their local candidate, giving them the opportunity to ask the hard questions outside the controlled environment of most public interactions.

Station Manager Deb Welch says: "Community radio has always been a leader in promoting democratic communication and participation. Pollywaffle will inform people about where their potential representatives stand on local issues and help them to feel connected to their local politicians. This will surely increase participation in the political process during a time when so many people are disillusioned by all the spin."

Pollywaffle is co-hosted by long time Radio Adelaide producer Nikki Marcel. "Pollywaffle aims to find the person behind the politics. It will really test the substance of candidates to see if they can leave their suits at the studio door and say more than the party line," she says.

Co-host and political commentator Michael Adams is completing his final year in law and media at Adelaide University. Michael will also profile and analyse local issues, while John Driggers will present a quick round up of the differences and similarities between the parties on national issues such as immigration, IR laws, climate change and more...

To find out who's on when, send in questions for candidates or listen to and download audio of past interviews, visit www.radio.adelaide.edu.au and follow the Pollywaffle link.
