Saturday, 15 September 2007 A photographic exhibition to be staged by University of Adelaide medical students today (Saturday 15 September) aims to raise awareness of the need for more humanitarian support for the developing world. Called INSIGHT, the exhibition features photographs taken by students from around the world, demonstrating the diversity of people and cultures, the conditions they live in, and also a sense of hope. "Photos are one of the most effective ways to capture the plight of humanity and make it known to all corners of the globe," says University of Adelaide medical student and Insight Photo Exhibition Coordinator Anita Smith. "With this event, we're hoping to raise money for Kompiam Hospital in Papua New Guinea, a project of the Insight Development Fund. This money will go towards funding much-needed new radiological equipment and hospital supplies," she says. Insight is a university student-run, non-profit organisation focused on the promotion of global health equity among students, health professionals and the wider community. "As the global health group of the University of Adelaide, we aim to educate, inspire and empower students to get involved in making a real contribution to the `global village'," Ms Smith says. "This photographic exhibition will help to bring the world closer to many South Australians. Through their donations, they will help South Australia to make a lasting contribution to another part of the world that desperately needs help." WHAT: Insight Photo Exhibition 2007 |
