The University of Adelaide has joined the ranks of some of the world's top business schools, by being named a CFA Program Partner Institution.

The CFA Institute is a global, not-for-profit association based in the United States that awards the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) accreditation to professionals in the field.

As a partner institution, the University of Adelaide is considered a leader and role model in commerce, accounting and finance education right around the world, with a high level of ethical and professional standards.

Two of the University's Masters degrees have earned this distinction: the Master of Commerce (Applied Finance) and Master of Accounting and Finance.

Both degrees are recognised as providing at least 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge, giving graduates a strong foundation in preparation for CFA exams.

Recognition as a CFA Program Partner signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the University's curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the three levels of CFA examinations.

"Students in this program are exposed to the Candidate Body of Knowledge, concepts and principles that have been identified by investment experts worldwide as essential to global practice," said Bob Johnson, CFA, managing director of the CFA Institute Education Division. "By mastering these fundamentals of the CFA Program, students will be well on their way to earning the highly valued CFA charter."

The University of Adelaide's Professor of Finance, Ralf Zurbrugg, said: "It is an honour to have our programs accepted by the CFA Institute's Program Partnership. Acceptance into the program will further enhance the opportunities of our students as they are able to receive a well-regarded academic qualification and use this study towards attaining the prestigious CFA charter.

"The CFA charter is the standard for investment knowledge around the world, and through our acceptance into the program, students can be assured of the academic rigour and practical nature of the finance programs at the University of Adelaide."

The Head of the School of Commerce at the University of Adelaide, Associate Professor Barry Burgan, said: "In an increasingly global world of business the CFA charter enables the finance industry to be assured of the worth of a member. The knowledge gained through studying the CFA's Candidate Body of Knowledge will help equip our students to deal with the complexities of business in a global environment.

"The acceptance of the Master of Commerce (Applied Finance) and the Master of Accounting and Finance by the CFA reinforces the educational depth and value of these programs for prospective students and employers around the world."
