Dr Rob Lewis, the Executive Director of SARDI (SA Research and Development Institute), has been appointed Affiliate Professor to the University of Adelaide's School of Agriculture, Food and Wine.

The affiliation recognises Professor Lewis' rise to national prominence as a research leader and manager, and for his continuing contributions to the research community in South Australia.

Professor Bob Hill, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Adelaide, said that Professor Lewis is a strong supporter of science, and has been instrumental in progressing research developments and collaborative activities at the University's Waite and Roseworthy Campuses.

"Professor Lewis' foresight, vision and passion has shaped research directions that are now producing tangible benefits for South Australians," Professor Hill said.

"Through joint postgraduate research programs with the University he has had a positive impact on the careers of numerous scientists."

The University also praised his capacity to engage with stakeholders, understand industry needs and to translate these into viable, profitable research programs.

Professor Lewis originally trained as a marine scientist and since 1993 has been responsible for guiding SARDI into a model state research agency that delivers robust scientific solutions for primary industry sectors.
