Big challenges facing the financial market

Friday, 18 July 2008

The Rudd Government's economic priorities in its first term will be outlined at a financial markets symposium being hosted by the University of Adelaide on Monday 21 July.

The Federal Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law, Senator Nick Sherry, will provide an update of the Australian economy and financial sector, including recent market volatility and its effect on superannuation fund returns, when he addresses an audience of business people at the National Wine Centre.

Senator Sherry is the keynote speaker for the "Challenging Financial Markets" symposium being hosted by the University of Adelaide's International Centre for Financial Services. His address will provide an insight into the Federal Government's priorities in the corporate law sector, the recently released Green Paper on Financial Services and Credit Reform, and the current priorities in the superannuation area.

South Australian Deputy Premier Kevin Foley will give the opening address.

The symposium will feature an expert panel of industry professionals and academics on the challenges facing financial markets.

Speakers include:

  • The Hon. Kevin Foley, Deputy Premier of South Australia: "Opportunities for South Australia in the rapidly growing financial services industry"
