Wednesday, 19 November 2008 "What is the one moment of Mozart's music you can't live without?" More than 10,000 votes later, after ABC Classic FM had asked Australia's music lovers this question, the Adagio from Mozart's Clarinet Concerto was voted as that special moment. Now this timeless work can be heard on Saturday 29 November in the final concert of the University of Adelaide's highly successful ELDERHALL evenings 2008 season. Rising star Catherine Vaughan, a student at the University of Adelaide and member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, will feature as the clarinet soloist. She will perform with the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra conducted by Keith Crellin. Other works being performed include Beethoven's powerful Egmont Overture and, to close the concert, Sibelius's Second Symphony. "This is a work that shows the composer's love for his homeland, Finland. It is full of stark beauty, melancholy and deep passions and will bring an extraordinary year of music making to a great `Finale'," says Elder Hall Concert Manager Claire Oremland. "On an exciting note, a big welcome is extended to Barossa Valley Estate who are new sponsors for the 2009 season of ELDERHALL evenings. Their 'musical' wines 'E Minor' and 'E Bass' will be a wonderful match with next year's concerts," Ms Oremland said.
