The University of Adelaide has made a record number of offers to potential students this year and is taking late applications in response to the economic climate.
As university offers go out around the State tonight, the University will have made about 5140 offers to date for a place on its degree programs. Students can check whether they have been made an offer via the SATAC website from 6pm or wait to receive a letter mailed this afternoon.
Applications to the University of Adelaide for 2009 were up almost 5% on last year.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor James McWha said that in times of weaker economies more people chose to study.
"We've had a significant increase in applications this year and part of that will have been due to the current economic situation and increased pressures on the job market," Professor McWha said.
"We've been able to make a record number of offers to date - up 300 on last year - and have decided to accept further applicants.
"This is in line with our growth ambitions and also our wish to help meet community demand, State priorities and continuing industry need for skilled graduates.
"I would encourage any student who would like to study at the University of Adelaide but didn't apply for various reasons, to contact the University," Professor McWha said.
Places are available in a wide range of fields including commerce and economics, health science, sciences, engineering and computer sciences, humanities, media and music.
Some of the more popular courses are full including veterinary science which, in just its second year, saw an increase of 71% in first preference applications.
First preference applications for medicine were up by almost 10% this year, with more than 1900 applications received for the sought-after program.
Students wanting to enquire about late applications should call the University of Adelaide's Student Centre on 8303 5208 or country callers can phone toll free on 1800 061 459.
