Monday, 6 September 2010 Magnificent choral works by the University of Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium of Music will fill the lofty spaces of St Peter's Cathedral on Saturday 11 September at 6.30pm. The Three Choirs and Chamber Orchestra will perform Vivaldi's baroque masterpiece Gloria in a program of works including Monteverdi, Holst, Pärt and Bach's famous Brandenburg Concerto No. 4. One of Australia's most respected and experienced choral conductors, Carl Crossin ― composer, educator and Director of the Elder Conservatorium of Music ― will direct the massed voices of the Elder Conservatorium Chorale, Bella Voce, Adelaide Voices and the Chamber Orchestra. "I'm sure that audiences will find as much inspiration and pleasure in the dedication and skill of the performers as in the music itself," Mr Crossin says. Concert manager for the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Claire Oremland, says audiences have responded well to joint concerts between the University and St Peter's Cathedral in the past and this one shouldn't be missed. "St Peter's Cathedral is a unique venue with stunning surrounds that are perfectly suited to choral music," she says. Local choirs Adelaide Voices and Bella Voce ― conducted by well known Adelaide singers Christie Anderson and Emma Horwood ― will open the concert, followed by the Elder Conservatorium Chorale, bringing together around 80 singers. The orchestra and the choirs will come together as the evening culminates in Vivaldi's Gloria.
