Former senior financial services executive Andrew McLachlan has been appointed the new Director of the International Centre for Financial Services (ICFS) at the University of Adelaide.

Mr McLachlan has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry, with senior leadership and executive positions in national financial service groups including Tower and IOOF. He has also been the Chief Executive for Australian Executor Trustee's personal trust business.

Chair of the ICFS Advisory Board Matt Walsh said: "Andrew McLachlan has a strong record in financial services and is highly regarded in the industry. His broad experience will be invaluable in taking the ICFS ahead and delivering on our growth aspirations."

Mr McLachlan said the International Centre for Financial Services was renowned as a provider of high quality research on financial services. He takes over from the former Director Clive Perring, who retired in January.

"This is a time where the world is looking to growth and stability from the Asian markets," he said. "It is exciting to be working at the Centre which has such an excellent track record in research as well as strong links throughout the Asia Pacific region.

"I look forward to working with the Chairman and members of the Advisory Board who are all extremely experienced in the financial services' marketplace. Their knowledge and commitment are key components of the Centre's success to date.

"I particularly enjoy the prospect of returning to the University of Adelaide where I completed undergraduate law, and I will be working hard to ensure that the Centre continues to foster excellence in financial services."

Mr McLachlan is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia and the Financial Services Institute of Australasia. He has served on the national executive of the Trustee Corporations Association of Australia and on the compliance and investment boards of the Financial Services Council.

Before taking up executive appointments, he worked as a lawyer specialising in superannuation, banking and finance law.

His areas of expertise include senior executive leadership, financial services, corporate governance, risk management and compliance. He continues to practice in administrative and trust law.

The International Centre for Financial Services is a centre of excellence and thought leadership in financial services based at the University of Adelaide. Its mission is to foster excellence in the financial services industry through world class research and education as well as through industry collaboration and engagement.
