Roseworthy Information Day spotlights careers in agriculture

Thursday, 7 August 2003

Excellent job opportunities in agriculture and the university study that can lead to them will be put under the spotlight at this year's Roseworthy Campus Information Day (Friday, August 15).

Recent figures from the Graduate Careers Council of Australia show that more than 92% of the University of Adelaide's first-degree agriculture graduates received full-time work in 2002, with starting salaries averaging $32,000 a year.

"These figures illustrate that our graduates have the edge in terms of finding work following their degrees," says the Director of the University's Roseworthy Campus, Professor Phil Hynd.

"Roseworthy Information Day aims to show potential students the excellent study and career opportunities that exist in agriculture and agricultural science."

Professor Hynd says Information Day offers students, their families and other members of the community the chance to see that agriculture and related industries provide opportunities to be involved in the most exciting and important issues facing our society - including GM foods, GPS precision farming, dryland salinity, molecular biology, plant and animal genetics and microbiology.

"The fact that Roseworthy continues to draw funding and major partnerships from industry and government, such as the recent announcement about the national centre for pig industry training and education, shows that Roseworthy is among the top centres of agricultural science and education in Australia.

"Our current students and graduates are highly respected in the industry, and Roseworthy Information Day will show you why."
