Monday, 18 August 2003 The Hon Dr Paula Stern, president of The Stern Group - a Washington D.C. economic analysis and trade advisory firm - will address "Overall U.S. Trade Policy and How it Fits with FTAs in the Context of History" on Thursday 21 August at 5:10pm in the University of Adelaide's Napier Building. The lecture is being presented by the University of Adelaide's Institute for International Business, Economics and Law (IIBE&L). A distinguished scholar and former chairwoman of the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), Dr Stern advises businesses on trade issues that affect their competitiveness in the international economy. "This is a real coup for the Institute. Dr Stern has a high profile and her opinions are highly regarded. There will be a lot to be gained from this lecture," said Andrew Stoler, Executive Director IIBE&L. "The FTA with the United States is going to be a big deal for South Australia and Paula Stern is uniquely well-positioned to give use the inside story on the latest developments in Washington." Dr Stern is a member of the U.S. President's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Inter-American Dialogue, the U.S. Committee on NATO and the Committee for Economic Development where she co-chairs the trade and globalisation sub-committee.
