Uni hosts top U.S. researchers

Major Tony Mitchell, Asian Office of Aerospace Research and Development (AOARD) and Colonel Don Erbschloe, Commander and Deputy Director of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), will be hosts of the University of Adelaide on 30 October 2003.

The visit, initiated by Major Mitchell, is aimed at identifying and promoting both current and future research and networking opportunities between the United States Air Force and Australian researchers.

The Research Branch, in collaboration with the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering, is coordinating Major Mitchell and Colonel Erbschloe's visit. Both faculties will be hosting tours enabling networking opportunities.

Leading Researchers of the University of Adelaide hold a longstanding and mutually beneficial research based relationship with AOARD/AFOSR. Currently, AOARD is funding cross-faculty University of Adelaide based research projects in excess of (AU)$500,000.

Professor David O'Carroll, Physiology; Professor Robert Vincent, Physics; Professor Lang White, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Professor Colin Hansen, Electrical Engineering are among the researchers who have received substantial AOARD funding which has enabled them to conduct high calibre research.

At 2:30pm Major Tony Mitchell, following an introduction by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research), Professor Edwina Cornish, will present University of Adelaide researchers and interested postgraduate students with an overview of AOARD and provide an introduction to the various funding activities of AOARD.
