Entrepreneurs start up in Hub Central

Wednesday, 10 July 2013

Young entrepreneurs will gather in the University of Adelaide's Hub Central this weekend for a 54-hour learning and business startup marathon.

The University, through its Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre (ECIC), is sponsoring Startup Weekend Adelaide on Friday 12 to Sunday 14 July.

The young entrepreneurs will focus on the formation of viable commercial ideas into startup businesses. This is the third Startup Weekend event held in Adelaide.

"Start-up Weekend is a tremendous initiative that forms part of the South Australian entrepreneurial ecosystem," says Dr Allan O'Connor, Acting Director of ECIC.

"The ECIC is committed to connecting the University's entrepreneurial community with South Australian initiatives that share a common passion and vision for a vibrant and thriving creative, innovative and enterprising culture."

The weekend starts with Friday night business pitches, and continues with brainstorming sessions, business plan development and prototype creation, culminating in Sunday night demonstrations, presentations and prize giving.

Over the weekend, teams will work together with industry leaders and established local entrepreneurs to create their startup business. The weekend gives budding entrepreneurs a chance to test their idea in a supportive environment.

"The University is proud to be a Platinum sponsor, joining other organisations including Google Australia, Internode, Adelaide City Council, Piper Alderman and BDO in supporting this event," says Dr O'Connor, who will represent ECIC on the judging panel.
